Rites of Passage

Updated: Jan 2

What IS a "Rite of Passage"?

A Rite of Passage can be defined or described as:

  • a specific event that marks an important transition between stages in one’s life - a "crossroads" where two self-identities collide and only one can emerge & flourish

  •  an opportunity for immense transformation, growth, and healing as one steps across the threshold from that which is familiar to that which is mysterious and unknown;

  • an unveiling of a new version of oneself, while simultaneously releasing & honoring an old version of self;

  • a ceremony, words, and/or actions that mirror and support a particular transformative process

________________

We pass through many Rites of Passage in life, including Birth/Death, Menarche/Puberty, Marriage/Union, Mother/Fatherhood, and Divorce/Separation.

Why Celebrate A Rite of Passage?

Each Rite of Passage can be met with Sacred Reverence; each one is a transitory portal of possibility.

All Rites of Passage are invitations to release and let go – they require the death of one version of Self, which opens space for birthing and nurturing a new version of Self.

The transition process can be painful and uncomfortable -- it forces you to re-evaluate many different aspects of self. It requires you to honor the parts that are dying and nurture the parts that are still growing and evolving

Pain allows us to learn. grow, and evolve through an experience -- pain is the greatest teacher you will ever know. You can choose to open or close in the face of pain - closing will restrict and limit your potential; opening is challenging but comes with limitless expansion, freedom, Soul-liberation, and evolution.

Like a caterpillar entering its cocoon, you will be invited to take inventory of the 'things' you need to release/let go – the fears, patterns, emotions, etc – and all that you desire to call into your life now.

You will emerge from this transition (Rite of Passage) as an expanded version of yourself – as a beautiful butterfly -- no longer tied down to old ways of being and knowing; you will be free to fly to new places, through new experiences, with new perspectives.

________________

Rites of passage provide a unique opportunity for you to cultivate your own self-trust and allow others to nurture that self-trust within you (by encouraging you to turn your focus inward, and connect with your own body, intuition, & instincts).

Why are Rites of Passage Important?

The transition through each Rite of Passage lays the foundation for the next phase, or season, of one’s life – whatever is said, not said; done, not done; all the emotions, experiences, traumas, lessons, etc will inevitably be carried forward.

Rites of passage occur whether we are conscious of them or not.

When it comes to Rites of Passage, you have only two main CHOICES:

1) Do I want to pass through these Rites consciously or unconsciously? (with or without awareness of their power and potency)

AND

2) Do I want to walk the healing path or the wounding path? (the latter is rooted in past traumas, emotional wounds, unconscious programs, cultural norms/expectations, while the former is grounded in awareness and embodiment, and allows for deep transformation & healing).

________________

As with everything in life, you always have a CHOICE / Free Will.

If you choose to walk the healing path, and desire to celebrate a Rite of Passage, consciously and with reverence, I would be delighted to co-create a ceremony with you. It is a "co-creation" because it is YOUR ceremony, so I need your input to design and create a ceremony that resonates with your Soul, your Life, and the people you know and love.
